Linty is a female squirrel from the Tangletwigs who kidnapped Princess Catkin.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
When Linty was young, she was a dancer, and lived in the Tangletwigs; while growing up, she learned to navigate the Tangletwigs, becoming very agile in the process, which lead to her being a dancer. Her children, a daughter called Daisy and a baby boy, were both culled by Husk himself, which caused her to become distrustful of captains and Tower animals, and traumatized her enough to eat away at her sanity. Believing Husk will hunt her down next, she builds two "safehouses", both extremely hidden and completely self-sustaining, which she restocks periodically to remember the routes.
The Heir of Mistmantle[]
Linty is hired by Queen Cedar to watch over Catkin, but when Linty realizes she was in the Tower, she panics, believing that Catkin needed to be saved from Husk. She kidnaps Catkin, and hides in one of her safehouses. While Linty is hiding, she slowly slips into insanity, mistaking Catkin for her daughter Daisy, and become more paranoid as she hears voices above ground, which belongs to the animals searching for Catkin.
Finally, she tries to leave the island in a boat, but is stopped by Sepia, who persuades Linty to let her help her row. Sepia tries to turn the boat around, but Linty notices, and both of them fall into the water in the fight that follows. Linty is saved by Urchin and Lugg; however, she is distrustful of captains after Husk killed her children, and attacks Lugg, stabbing him and launching him into the water. He is brought ashore by the animals, but dies shortly after from his wounds.
